Hen Parties in Edinburgh

Edinburgh is incredibly popular for a hen party weekend, perhaps it’s because the city is one of Britain’s most fascinating cities stuffed full of history, intrigue and more listed buildings than anywhere in the world. Despite it’s ancient history, Edinburgh also has a vibrant and varied night scene with numerous bars, clubs and restaurants. The range of outdoor activities are second to none making it an easy choice and one your bride will love. A hen party in August means you have the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to make your hen weekend even more exciting.

A few iconic city ideas to wet your appetite

A visit to the famous Edinburgh Castle is a must. Standing proudly above the city at the top of the Royal Mile, you may be surprised to learn that it stands on an extinct volcano. Not only is it steeped in history it also offers the very best views across the city. If historic buildings interest the bride-to-be, she will love exploring this historic attraction with her favourite girlfriends.

Scotch whisky experience

You can’t have a Scottish hen party without including a taste of a wee dram of Scottish whisky. We suggest a Scotch Whisky Experience right in the heart of the city. At this venue you can take a tour, indulge in a tasting experience and book a meal.

Another Edinburgh must see are the Royal Botanic Gardens. A casual stroll through these famous outdoor gardens will delight most and every season brings new plants and flowers to make this an every changing experience.

Take your hens out and about

As the hen party organiser, you’ll want to change things up a bit and include a cross-section of activities so that your hen group are all catered for. Here are a few suggestions.

Escape in Edinburgh

Edinburgh has a total of ten escape game venues offering a variety of escape rooms that are bound to pique your hen party’s interest. The principal behind escape room games is that you are locked in a room (not actually locked, but don’t cheat), and to escape you must solve the problems, puzzles and clues set. Themed to make it mega exciting you could be facing a conundrum that Sherlock Holmes himself failed to solve, then there is the magic of Harry Potter (the book actually being written in Edinburgh by JK Rowling makes this one very apt) takes you into that magical world to solve a particularly wizardry problem. Then there is the rescue of the International Space Station crew by working out how to repair the escape pod. So many ways to Escape Edinburgh – for example, escape the ice giants in a viking world, Go under cover with your team (hens) of secret agents to find the anti-virus to defeat a deadly virus that has been released into the city’s water system. Escape games are great fun shown by their popularity amongst hen groups.

Indoor skydiving

Laugh out loud with your hens as they are blown up in the air in a vertical wind tunnel. Indoor skydiving creates the same experience as sky diving, but in a very safe environment, you will take turns in floating on a cushion of air as the wind rushes past you.

Bubble Soccer

How about another fun activity, this time as a group. A brand new idea developed for pure fun, bubble football has you all wearing giant zorbs that cover you from head to the top of your legs. You then try and play a game of football with no rules. You’ll find yourselves bumping each other, falling and generally rolling around a lot. If you can stop laughing long enough you might just score a goal.

Clay pigeon shooting

Always a winner with hen groups, clay pigeon shooting gets you out of the city and into the surrounding countryside. Full instruction is given so, even if this is your first time, you will be smashing those flying clays into smithereens in no time. Our venues often change things up a little and introduce other clay targets like running rabbit and rising ducks. Will the bride-to-be take the trophy for top gun or will one of the bridesmaids grab the glory.

Combat archery

A hybrid of paintball, archery and dodge ball, combat archery offers the excitement of all three. Two teams are formed and the arrows, topped with foam tips, are placed in the middle. The whistle blows and it’s a race to the middle to grab as many arrows as you can and battle begins. You’re out if hit by an arrow and back in again if one of your team catches an arrow. Minimum of ten players for this activity so that should suit most hen parties.

Low Ropes Course

High ropes courses are up in the trees where you can literally go ape for the day, but the best Edinburgh course is a low ropes course over water adding another dimension entirely and a high chance of getting wet, which is all part of the fun. Basically, it is a giant spiders web set over water on which you navigate across swinging wake boards, rope ladders, a climbing wall finishing with a huge splash into the water from a zip wire. Okay, you will get wet.
