This is because the city had the world\u2019s largest port from the 19th century up until the 20th. Liverpool operates seven museums and galleries including the recently opened Museum of Liverpool,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk\/kids\/?theme=art\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>kids\u2019 favourite<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0World Museum Liverpool, the fascinating Merseyside Maritime Museum, stunning Walker Art Gallery and thought-provoking\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk\/ism\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>International Slavery Museum.<\/strong><\/a> The city is an important centre for culture not just in the northwest of England, but also the United Kingdom more broadly. However, Liverpool is still a powerhouse of musical\ntalent with up and coming bands and solo artists taking top spots in\nnational awards and making their mark overseas. What\u2019s more\nexciting is that some of these rising stars can be heard every\nweekend in the bars and clubs around the city; a city with a night\nscene that you can explore almost completely on foot. Of course,\nthe city is home to the two professional football clubs Liverpool F\nC. and Everton. Both clubs run stadium tours, which is a dream come\ntrue for fans. Alan Bleasdale (writer, known most notably for\n\u2018Boys from the Black Stuff\u2019). Willy Russel (his most celebrated\nshow is \u2018Blood Brothers\u2019, which is still showing in Liverpool\ntoday). Paul Barber (the iconic Denzil in Only Fools and Horses).\nAnne Robinson (TV presenter and the \u2018Queen of Mean\u2019). Daniel\nCraig (best known for playing James Bond); Sheila Grant (known for\nher appearance in Brookside and her role as Barbara Royle in the\nBAFTA award-winning sitcom The Royle Family). The list goes on as\nthere is a huge raft of talent that has come out of Merseyside, and\nthat continues today. Ken\nDodd, described as the last great music hall entertainer, who is\nfamous for his buck teeth, frizzy hair and tickling stick. Kenny\nEverett who is known for his irreverent, offbeat comedic style.\nAlexei Sayle who was a central figure in the alternative comedy\nmovement in the 1980s. Jimmy Tarbuck who hosted numerous game shows\nand quiz shows during the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. Paul Grady,\nwho is most notable for his drag queen character, Lily Savage in the\n1990s.
