Team building days should be all about having fun, building great relationships and saying thank you to your team for their hard work. Most companies will at least encourage, if not actually organise, a few pints on a Friday afternoon, or treating staff to takeaway on an exceptional sales day. The very least that happens is a Christmas party, well we hope so. All these work in boosting morale to a certain extent, but how about pushing the boat out and doing something a little more unusual?
How about the following to whet your appetite?
These are all outdoor activities, because lets face it most people work in an office and long to get out of that environment after work and definitely on a team-building event.
Zorb Football or Bubble Soccer. The funniest activity you can imagine and one that your team will remember for many days and weeks to come. Basically, you all get a large plastic zorb put over the top part of your body and then try to play football. Mayhem ensues as you bump, roll and laugh your way round the pitch trying desperately to stay on your feet and more importantly score a goal.
Escape Games. Solving puzzles, conundrums and quizzes to escape a room is a pretty awesome team activity. It definitely requires teamwork if you are to escape before the time runs out and it’s surprising just how quickly 60 minutes goes when your against the clock. Many escape rooms are themed, which add to the experience. Themes vary from horror, war, fantasy and the favourite, detective, namely the famous Sherlock Holmes.
Orienteering. There’s nothing quite like getting lost in the middle of nowhere to build team spirit. It will be essential to work together to make it back to base. Skills that are developed or come to the fore on such an activity are leadership, problem solving, teamwork and remaining calm in a crisis. All very useful skills for your teams to develop.
Paintballing. Probably the most popular team-building activity in the UK and Ireland, paintballing is a tough team game that most people enjoy. Not unusual if your company has used this one before, but if not, it’s a great choice. All the games are team orientated and there is even the opportunity to hunt down and shoot the boss. What’s not to like about this option?
High Ropes. An opportunity to go ape and test the courage and determination of your teams. The variety of challenges is excellent and you’ll have everyone swinging up there in the trees from ropes, climbing crazy high ladders and zipping down wires to chase the prize of the fastest team.
Skydiving. A team-building event where the sky’s the limit. Not everyone is up for throwing themselves out of a plane at 13,000 feet. You’ll need a pretty ‘go-getting’ bunch of people to choose this team-building option. It’ll certainly show you who’s got guts in your teams, that’s for sure.
Depending how deep your pockets are, there are many other activities that involve motorised vehicles, such as rally driving, high performance cars, tanks, quads and the popular go karting option – again not unusual, but might be your preferred option.
You then have lower cost ideas, which would include ideas like creating a treasure hunt or team building challenges such as obstacles courses, inside team-type games and challenges etc. But, why sweat the small stuff? Jump onto the Geronigo® website and see the 1000s of options they have for corporate events. You’ll even get your own dedicated event coordinator to help you organise and book your event activities. If it includes, booking a conference venue or a restaurant, they can help you with that too.
