Geronigo Presents…The Don’t Row Slow Show! In Support of Sport Relief 2018

Sport Relief is back once again, with those up and down the country tasked with raising funds for a great cause – spreading awareness of issues that are in abundance across the world. Throughout the years, Sport Relief has helped to tackle many critical issues, such as helping over 50,000 people in the UK living with mental health problems, and treating over 900,000 people across Africa with anti-malarial drugs. This was all made possible thanks to the amazing efforts and generosity from people from all over the nation. Here’s a bit of history about the amazing event:

Sport Relief is a charity event that is televised by the BBC, taking place every two years in March. It was established in 2002, and has alternated with Comic Relief ever since then. The first ever instalment of Sport Relief was able to raise an incredible £14.4m, although each edition since then has been able to raise considerably more. For instance, the last Sport Relief event in 2016 was able to raise an amazing £72m!

This time round, celebrities such as radio presenter Greg James set his sights on completing the Pedal to The Peaks challenge, in which he climbed three of the highest mountains in the UK and then cycled the distances between them. In the process, he was able to raise over £1 million, despite his effort being delayed due to the awful weather we’ve been having recently! The One Show presenter Alex Jones also took part in her own fundraiser, completing a 26-mile marathon in Swansea as part of a five day challenge. But, it’s not only been the celebrities taking part! Leading up the main event this Friday, the entire nation has been collectively challenged to reach over a billion steps a day!

In order to play our part, us here at Geronigo HQ have challenged ourselves with our fundraising effort The Don’t Row Slow Show! Essentially, we’ll be tasked with rowing as many miles as we can throughout the day on Friday 23rd March. The more miles we row, the more money we will raise! But to make things interesting, we’ll each be dressing up in costume. Throughout the week, our athletes will be revealed across our social media pages, so keep your eyes peeled! The event will be live-streamed on our Facebook page, so make sure that you tune in to see all of the action!

Sport Relief 2018 is due to air on BBC One this Friday, 23rd March, kicking off from 7pm, so don’t miss out, and don’t forget to donate to this amazing cause!
