Die ca. 30 minütige geführte Tour führt über einen Holzsteg mit Geländer durch ein 200 meter langes Höhlensystem. Nachdem Sie sich an die Dunkelheit gewöhnt haben werden Sie tausende Glühwürmer an der Höhlendecke und den Wänden, sowie den Stalaktiten und Stalakmiten, sehen.
Während Sie die Höhlen erforschen, wird Ihnen Ihr freundlicher Maori Guide den Lebenszirkel der Neuseeland Glühwürmchen(Arachnocampa Luminosa) erklären. Er zeigt Ihnen auch wie die Glühwürmchen mit Ihren Spinnenweben artigen Fangfäden Ihre Beute fangen. Sie haben auch die Möglichkeit dicht an die Würmchen heranzu kommen und den Körper mit dem Blau und Grün leuchtenden Hinterteil zu sehen. Danach kehren Sie über den Buschweg durch den Subtropischen Regenwald und durch karstige Felsformationen zurück zu Ihrem Bus.
Nach einer kurzen Fahrt nach Kawakawa, dem Ort der weltbekannten “Hundertwasser Toiletten”, eine der wenigen Toiletten die weltweit als Kunstwerk angesehen werden. Entworfen und umgesetzt von dem Wiener Architekten und Maler Frederick “Friedensreich” Hundertwasser. Beim Bau wurden nur recycelte Materialien verwendet und der Bau wurde von der Gemeinde durchgeführt.
Sie besuchen auch das Hundertwasser Art Centre, das 2020 eröffnet wurde. Hier sehen Sie Beispiele von Hundertwasser Architektur und Malerei sowie auch örtliche Maori Kunst.
Zum Schluss der Tour fahren wir in den Opua Forest und besuchen die mächtigen Kauri Bäume, welche 1000 Jahre alt sind. Von Hier fahren wir dann zurück nach Waitangi und noch zu einem fantastischen Aussichtspunkt mit einem super Blick über die Bay of Islands und auch auf Ihr Kreuzfahrtschiff.
