Follow a steep track through podocarp bush to this cute and unique backcountry hut, complete with distinctive blue paint and funny signs from the old Masterton hospital inside. At the top of the hill you can enjoy views of the surrounding mountain range, including Mitre Peak, the highest mountain in the Tararua Forest Park. You might even spot a kaka from the nearby wildlife centre.
