McLaren Vale Visitor Centre
Follow the Adelaide coastline south towards Port Noarlunga lookout to take in the water views and continue into the McLaren Vale wine region to arrive at the local Visitor Centre. Grab some morning tea from the Stump Hill café (own expense) and explore the display of local attractions and souvenirs, or if you have an interest for art, delve into The Gallery which is home to an ever changing exhibits from local and national artists.
The d'Arenberg Cube
Prepare yourself for a cellar door like no other, the d'Arenberg Cube. The idea to build the Cube came to Chester Osborn, the fourth generation winemaker of d’Arenberg in 2003. Inspired by the complexities and puzzles of winemaking, Chester created the idea of a cube-shaped building.
Each of the five levels have been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses, including features such as a wine sensory room, a virtual fermenter, a 360degree video room, and many other tactile experiences. Enjoy a taste of some of the award winning wines and time to explore the Cube.
Kay Brothers Wines
The oldest family owned winery in McLaren Vale hasn't had to change too much since the 1890s when brothers Herbert and Frederick Kay first started tending the Amery Vineyard, one of McLaren Vale's original vineyards.
Today this historic winery, which follows a traditional winemaking philosophy of open fermenters and an original basket press, benefit greatly from their sustainably estate grown fruit which helps create outstanding wines which are highly enjoyable and sought after within Australia and internationally.
Red Poles Restaurant and Gallery
After enjoying your time and taste at Kay Brothers, travel the short distance past the vineyards of the Vale to arrive at Red Poles.
Established in 2005 as a restaurant, gallery and bed and breakfast, Red Poles has developed into a popular destination for it's delicious meals within their spacious indoor and outdoor dining areas and their support of local craft beer, wine and gin. Art lovers also love the mix of art including the Indigenous art gallery space.
Their warmth hospitality is often enjoyed by full houses on weekends, when on a Sunday You can relax to the sounds of talented musicians.
Bec Hardy Wines
After lunch, continue relaxing in beautiful surrounding at Bec Hardy Wines. Established in 2015, Bec is a 6th generation member of and the first female vigneron from one of Australia’s oldest wine families, the Hardys.
In 2020, Bec took over the ownership and running of the Pertaringa brand in McLaren Vale as part of her family’s succession planning. Established by her father Geoff Hardy in 1980, Pertaringa continues to be a family-owned and operated wine business under Bec and her husband Richard. Today you will get the opportunity to taste a number of wines from brands.
McLaren Vale Main Street
With McLaren Vale's main street being home to many enjoyable attractions, we next arrive in the heart of the town and present guests with the opportunity to explore Hardys Tintara Winery, the Fleurieu Arthouse, The Almond Train, Robern Menz Chocolates, and much more.
All conveniently located close to each other, guests can also discover a number of cafes for those who wish to indulge in afternoon tea.
Travel back to Adelaide
On departing McLaren Vale, travel out through vineyards and follow the coast a short distance back towards the southern suburbs of Adelaide whilst enjoying scenic views of Adelaide city skyline to arrive back in Adelaide by 5.15 pm.
