While the Christmas tree is a northern European tradition, to get the real flavour of Italian Christmas traditions we will accompany you on an amazing tour among the Roman churches that display a traditional presepe – literally 'manger' or nativity scene. The nativity scene is said to have originated in Italy and it is Saint Francis of Assisi who is credited with having constructed the first nativity scene in a cave, way back in 1223.
Your itinerary will include a visit to Sant’Ignazio where you can learn about the differences in Roman and Napolitan nativity scenes and beliefs.
Santa Maria sopra la Minerva , Sant’Esustachio , San Luigi dei Francesi , Sant’Agnese and Santa Maria dell’Anima are some of the most known churches that we will visit to see different interpretation of the nativity scenes, from the most traditional one up to the more modern and colourful representations.
Finish your tour while enjoying a food tasting of the most typical Italian Christmas sweets at one of the most famous "pasticcerie" in Rome. Your guide will then be able to suggest any other places that you can see on your own on Christmas eve and Christmas Day.
